- TikTok Shop commissions and Amazon counterfeits shape wellness economics
- Sellers set TikTok rates from 1 to 80 percent plus platform fees
- Brands face fakes, fee pressure and the need to verify sellers
What you pay for a serum now reflects creator payouts and warehouse fees as much as harvest and formulation, a point clarified by a September 30, 2026 Dashboardly comparison of TikTok Shop and Amazon costs. The comparison found neither platform has a universally lower cost or higher margin. Sellers should compare the same product, fulfillment method, promotion plan, and time period.
For readers who study labels, the change starts on the screen. TikTok Shop lets brands sell through creator affiliates across videos, livestreams, and profiles. Sellers set commission rates between 1% and 80% and can customize rates for individual creators or campaigns. Tiered commissions allow higher introductory rates or higher rates as creators reach sales milestones.
Platform fees sit underneath those payouts. TikTok Shop platform fees are generally around 6%, which sellers should account for when setting commissions. Flat fee collaborations can combine an upfront payment ranging between $20 and $10,000 with optional performance based commissions. Fulfillment adds another choice, with seller managed shipping or Fulfilled by TikTok, while Amazon offers merchant fulfillment or Fulfillment by Amazon.
Affiliate marketing now accounts for nearly 10% of US ecommerce sales, or $113 billion, according to a 2025 study from The Performance Marketing Association. TikTok group vertical director Donte Murry said in an interview with Glossy that 77% of users search for the product they just saw in TikTok affiliate content. MySmile sold more than $1 million worth of products through TikTok Shop in their first three months using affiliate creators.
Amazon brings search demand at scale, but the record on fakes asks for caution. In April 2023 NOW Foods discovered 11 different counterfeit NOW supplements sold on Amazon by a single seller. That same month Fungi Perfecti discovered 23 different sellers on Amazon selling counterfeits of its Host Defense brand mushroom supplements. In August 2023 a counterfeit version of Bausch + Lomb’s PreserVision AREDS 2 Eye Vitamin and Mineral supplement had been sold on Amazon.
Later cases widened the pattern. In September 2023 it was discovered that counterfeit versions of Pure Encapsulations L-glutamine and NatureMD’s GutConnect 365 were sold on Amazon. A lawsuit was filed in November 2023 against multiple parties allegedly selling counterfeit Prevagen on Amazon. In October 2024 Fungi Perfecti won a lawsuit that prohibits JT Best Deals from advertising or selling Fungi Perfecti products.
Testing shows why sourcing matters. NOW Foods testing found counterfeit supplements contained capsules filled with plain rice flour, with some samples containing trace amounts of sildenafil. Fungi Perfecti counterfeits contained undeclared gluten and soy, which are absent from genuine Host Defense products. Under the U.S. Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, the FDA does not review or approve supplements before they are sold.
Amazon announced it will end commingling practices across their supply chain as of March 31, 2026, but this only applies to new inventory. “Amazon has a zero tolerance policy for counterfeit products,” an Amazon spokesperson said. What to watch next is quieter than a launch. Check the seller name and expect brands to budget creator costs into retail price.
Rooted formulas move slowly from field to bottle. Marketplaces move quickly from post to purchase. Knowing which system stands behind the buy helps keep the ritual steady.
