Three products carry a national seal. That small number explains Eczema Honey better than any slogan. Founder Minesh Patel built the Santa Rosa company around daily, gentle care for eczema prone skin, using familiar plants and food grade ingredients that feel safe to live with.

Three is the number to hold in mind. Three Eczema Honey products received the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance in September 2021. For a small company from Santa Rosa, California, that recognition mattered. It gave a clear signal to people who have tried everything and read every label.

Minesh Patel is the founder and CEO. He says the products were developed for ourselves and our children. The mission, in his words, is to deliver soothing products that are safe, nourishing and feel good. The line uses non toxic, food grade and safe ingredients, with no fillers of any kind. Every ingredient was selected to serve a specific purpose.

What we noticed, and what others often miss, is how plant led the approach remains even as the range grows. Oatmeal, honey, aloe and witch hazel return again and again. Not as stories, but as working ingredients chosen for how they cleanse, soften and calm the appearance of dry skin. Patel repeats a phrase worth keeping: we treat people and not the condition. This conversation follows that root.

You describe the start simply, that you developed products for yourselves and your children. What did daily life look like then, and what did you need that you could not find?

We started with our own families. When someone you love is uncomfortable in their skin, you notice everything. You notice how bath time feels. You notice how fabric feels. You notice sleep. We needed products we could use every day that were safe, nourishing and felt good. That is still our mission.

We provide natural relief products for people with eczema and sensitive skin. We do not treat the condition, we treat the person with soothing and cooling lifestyle products. The best way we have learned to do that is to make natural skincare products that make people feel good. Together, we are so excited for the future. We wanted care that fit into a normal day, not a separate routine that felt clinical.

You use a phrase often, that you treat the person and not the condition. What does that mean in practice when someone with eczema opens one of your jars?

It means we think about comfort first. We think about texture, scent, and how skin looks and feels after use. Eczema prone skin can look dry and feel tight and itchy. We want the moment of care to feel soothing and cooling. We want people to feel happy with soothing and cooling lifestyle products.

We provide natural relief products for people with eczema and sensitive skin. We do not treat the condition, we treat the person and make them feel happy with soothing and cooling lifestyle products. So we keep the steps simple. Cleanse gently. Moisturize while skin is still damp. Reapply when needed. If a product stings, smells strong, or leaves skin feeling stripped, it does not belong in our line. Daily use has to feel kind.

Your ingredient standard is strict, food grade ingredients with no fillers. Why did you choose that harder path, and how do you decide what earns a place in the formula?

Every ingredient was selected for high quality and serves a specific therapeutic purpose with no fillers of any kind. That is our rule. We bring clean skincare solutions for eczema relief and sensitive skin using non toxic food grade and safe ingredients. If an ingredient does not have a clear job, we leave it out.

Food grade is a discipline. It limits our palette. It asks more from sourcing and testing. But it keeps the formulas readable for people who read labels closely. We want parents and sensitive skin customers to recognize what they are putting on skin. Honey, oatmeal, aloe, plant oils and butters. These are familiar plants and pantry ingredients with long histories in skin care. We formulate them in a modern base that is dermatologist tested, so the ritual feels both familiar and considered.

Honey is in your name. What does honey actually do in a formula for dry, sensitive skin, and how do you work with it?

Honey is a humectant. It helps draw and hold water near the surface, which supports softer looking skin. It also gives a pleasant slip and feel that makes creams easier to spread on rough looking areas. We like that it comes from hives, not from a lab drum, and that customers understand it without a glossary.

In practice, honey needs care. It is sticky and variable by harvest, so the base around it has to be balanced. We pair it with oatmeal and gentle emollients so the finish feels nourishing rather than tacky. Our mission is to deliver soothing products that are safe, nourishing and feel good. If the honey makes the cream drag or feel heavy, we have not finished the work. The goal is a thin, even layer that lets skin look calm and feel comfortable.

We do not treat the condition, we treat the person with soothing and cooling lifestyle products.

Oatmeal appears across your bath and body range. Why has that plant stayed central, from soap to lotion to body wash?

Oatmeal is quiet and steady. It is milled from a familiar grain, and in skin care it is valued for how it helps skin look and feel softer. Colloidal oatmeal forms a light film that supports moisture and eases the appearance of dryness. For people who find salt scrubs too strong, finely ground oatmeal gives a much gentler touch.

We use it in different forms for different steps. In our Gentle Oatmeal and Lavender Soap, oatmeal supports mild cleansing that leaves skin feeling soft and smooth. In the body wash, it sits in an ultra mild base that nurtures, hydrates and softens without stripping natural oils. In the Oatmeal Body Lotion, it helps provide moisture in a light layer that is not sticky. Same field, three textures. That is the plant leading the routine.

Your Soothing Body Wash promises to nurture without stripping natural oils. What did you learn about cleansing sensitive skin in the shower?

We learned that less is more. Hot water and strong foam can leave eczema prone skin looking dry and feeling tight. So we made a daily, ultra mild body wash that nurtures, hydrates and softens dry, sensitive and eczema prone skin without stripping skin. The lather is soft. The rinse is clean. Skin should feel comfortable after toweling off, not squeaky.

How it is used matters as much as what is inside. Use lukewarm water. Keep showers short. Apply with hands rather than a rough cloth. Pat dry and seal in moisture while skin is still damp. That rhythm, cleanse gently and moisturize promptly, is the root of our bath practice. It is devoted to helping people with soothing and cooling products for daily use, and the shower is where that day begins.

Lavender sits beside oatmeal in your best selling soap. Lavender can be tricky for sensitive skin. How do you think about scent and essential oils?

We think about scent as part of comfort, but comfort cannot come with irritation. Our Gentle Oatmeal and Lavender Soap gives a truly mild cleansing for sensitive skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth. Lavender gives a light herbal note that makes a simple bar feel like a ritual. We keep the base mild and the bar well balanced so cleansing stays gentle.

At the same time, we know fragrance is personal. That is why we also make fragrance free options, like our Fragrance Free Oatmeal Comfort Bubble Bath, which is free of fragrances and essential oils that would irritate skin. Choice lets people steep in what suits them. Some want the field notes of lavender. Others want warm water and oatmeal alone. Both are valid routines.

Three products earned the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance in 2021. What did that review ask of you, and what did it change?

Our shared mission with the National Eczema Association is to empower our customers to educate themselves about how to care for their eczema, sensitive skin, and live a healthier life. The review looked at sensitivity, safety, toxicity and ingredient testing data for the Original Skin Soothing Cream, the Nut Free Skin Soothing Cream and the Oatmeal Body Lotion. That outside review asked for records, methods and clarity.

It changed how we speak. We stay close to soothing, moisture and feel. We say we bring clean skincare solutions for eczema relief and sensitive skin, and we mean relief as comfort and care, not as a cure. The seal sits on three products, not on the whole line, and we respect that boundary. It reminds customers that daily care and clear information belong together.

You are Leaping Bunny Certified and dermatologist tested. How do those two checks shape sourcing from soil to shelf?

They shape every purchase order. Dermatologist tested means the finished formula has been evaluated for tolerance on skin under controlled conditions. That pushes us to keep bases simple, avoid known harsh cleansers, and test changes before we scale them. Leaping Bunny Certified Cruelty Free means our animal testing policy and supply chain meet an outside standard, with ongoing checks.

From the field side, we favor high quality plant oils, butters, honey and oatmeal from suppliers who can document quality and consistency. Harvests vary. We set specs, review lots, and hold the line on no fillers. Made with high quality food grade and cosmetic grade ingredients with no fillers is easy to print and hard to do. The audits keep us honest from greenhouse and hive through blending and fill.

Looking ahead, what should a first time buyer start with, and how should they build a simple ritual morning and night?

Start with the shower and the seal. Use the Soothing Body Wash as a daily ultra mild wash, then apply the Oatmeal Body Lotion to the entire body for moisture while skin is still slightly damp. That pair covers cleanse and moisturize in two calm steps. Add the Gentle Oatmeal and Lavender Soap at the sink for hands that see many irritants through the day.

Keep the ritual slow. Short lukewarm showers. A thin, even layer of lotion. Reapply to dry looking areas as needed. We are devoted to helping people with soothing and cooling products for daily use. Eczema Honey mission is to deliver soothing products that are safe, nourishing and feel good. If skin feels soft, looks calm, and the routine feels easy to keep, you have found your pace.

Closing note from the desk

What stays with us after this conversation is restraint. Patel does not promise to fix skin. He promises to make the day easier, with plants people recognize and bases that respect sensitive skin. The language stays close to feel, to safe and nourishing, to soothing and cooling.

Eczema Honey set out to care for its own families first, then for people who have tried everything. Three seals, a short ingredient story, and a simple bath to body rhythm explain the brand better than any claim. Read slowly, use gently, and let comfort lead.
